The collaboration will establish a full environmental baseline for Alterra Farms, covering Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, and identify land-based interventions to improve soil health, increase biodiversity, connect habitats, and capture atmospheric carbon. The aim is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030 while maintaining the highest standards of guest experience across the group’s premium hospitality venues.

The assessment, set for completion by the end of 2025, will also integrate social value metrics covering health, education, economy, community cohesion, and environmental outcomes. This evidence-based approach will underpin certification under the UK Carbon Code and A Greener World Regenerative standards.

Doug Wanstall, Head of Projects at Beyond Zero, said:

We’re delighted to be working with Alterra Farms on this ambitious journey. By combining robust science, practical on-farm insight, and a clear focus on measurable outcomes, we’ll create a baseline that not only sets Alterra Farms on the path to carbon neutrality, but also demonstrates how land-based businesses can deliver wider social and environmental value. Our Net Zero roadmap will ensure their business is both financially and climatically resilient – showing that sustainability and commercial success can be achieved simultaneously.

Alterra Farms, which integrates an 800-acre arable farm with a growing portfolio of luxury wedding, event, and accommodation venues, has long championed wildlife and nature conservation on its land. The business sees its partnership with Beyond Zero as a major step forward in aligning its farming practices and hospitality operations with the highest standards of environmental stewardship.

Ali Kerr, Owner of Alterra Farms, commented:

This partnership represents our commitment to driving the business forward in terms of our green credentials while maintaining the highest standards of luxury hospitality. Our vision is to create a truly exceptional destination with zero emissions here in Suffolk – proving that environmental responsibility and outstanding guest experiences can go hand in hand.

Rosie Richardson, Managing Director, Alterra Farms asserted:

“Environmental stewardship and luxury hospitality are beautifully intertwined across our family of brands. The appointment of Beyond Zero will help us enhance our understanding of how our thoughtful farming practices – from wildflower margins to renewable energy – work harmoniously with our luxury venues.”
